Over sew or bind the fabric edges to prevent fraying - although it
seems to be a bit of a chore it's worth it in the long run! |
Find the centre of the fabric by folding
in half and then half again - mark the centre with a contrasting thread. It is
not essential to start your sewing at the centre of the design, but this is
probably the easiest method.
| A more even finish can be
achieved if the fabric is stretched over a hoop or in a frame. Always remove
the hoop when you have finished stitching for the day. |
Separate the thread into the number of
strands needed as indicated in the key, and work with a length of thread
approximately 18" long.
If the thread becomes
twisted, let the needle drop down and allow the thread to untwist.
Never use a knot when starting to sew - it
will make your work look very untidy. Your work should look almost as good on
the back as it does on the front!
Try to avoid making jumps
of more than 4 stitches on the back of the work - especially across an area of
material that will not be stitched, as the thread will show through the
finished work. |
